Calling all high-school-aged musicians, songwriters, and producers:  do you want to write a song with a Grammy-winning songwriter and record it in one of Southern Maine’s premier music studios? Sign up for one of our Summer Sessions—we’ll work collaboratively in small groups to write, record, and release a great song together with the guidance of these seasoned industry specialists at Monaco Studios:

  • Dave Gutter; renowned local singer/songwriter/performer with a career spanning three decades and a 2023 Grammy win, whose songs are taught academically at Harvard University and Berklee College of Music

  • Sam Monaco; Studio Owner who draws from a decade of experience in NYC as a business consultant to artists, while moonlighting as a percussionist in numerous bands and musical theatre productions

  • Ethan Woodman Fowler; Engineer and Producer at Monaco Studios with a degree from NESCom and over ten years of experience teaching the music program at Portland Arts & Technology High School (PATHS)

We’ll hit the ground running with strategies to beat writers block, guide you through the recording & mixing process, and send you off equipped with the skills to produce & release your own music using whatever tools you have at home. Our 4-day intensive will provide you with a strong foundation of knowledge that you can build a successful career upon, including best practices for the business & marketing side of musicianship. Some artists spend decades figuring all of this out on their own (and others never do), but we’re here to save you the time and trouble so that you can have the best shot at making a living doing what you love. This program will require dedicated focus, hands-on learning, and above all a passion for having fun making music.

Pre-requisites:

  • High-school age (14-18)

  • Some experience with music (playing an instrument, writing songs, home recording, etc.)

  • Access to a laptop able to run current music production software

  • Transportation to and from West Falmouth (no public transit available)
