Featured testimonial: Jake Roche (Grander Canyon)
I went into Monaco Studios with the intention of recording 4 bare-bones tracks — just guitar and vocals. I wanted to give venues an idea of what I sound like playing solo. Dan Capaldi had posted on Facebook that he had a few days free, and I had always respected him as a musician and an important part of the Portland, Maine music scene, so I thought why not make a quick demo? I went in to record with Dan, and we ended up laying down 7 tracks in a day. And they were all good. So, we thought "maybe this is an album". I brought in my brother Dan Roche for another day of drums, percussion, and a couple of new songs. All of a sudden we're working on a 9-song full length record we're making, much more than I had originally planned on. It was incredible how it came together and exceeded my expectations.
Dan Capaldi is a world class engineer, producer, mixer, and musician in his own right. He added so much to these songs, and he really went above and beyond with each track. It's clear he really cared about the music, and it was such a joy making this record. He played bass and percussion throughout the album, and sang backing vocals on a track. He arranged keyboard, piano, and violin parts. He has an incredible ear and impeccable taste. I've been in a lot of amazing studios, and worked with legends such as Beau Hill (Ratt, Warrant), Michael Barbiero (Guns N Roses, Soundgarden) and Jonathan Wyman (Pretty Wreckless, Jeremiah Freed). Working with Dan Capaldi at Monaco Studios was just as joyful an experience as any I've ever had while recording music.
